Physiatrist

A physiatrist is a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. They treat medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.

Physiatrists are also called rehabilitation medicine doctors, or PM&R doctors, and may be certified in a subspecialty of PM&R such as:
- Brain Injury Medicine
- Hospice and Palliative Medicine
- Neuromuscular Medicine
- Pain Medicine
- Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
- Spinal Cord Injury Medicine
- Sports Medicine

Physiatrists will often coordinate the treatment of a person with brain injury when more than one physician is involved with the recovery.
