Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an alternative therapy during which an individual lays in a hyperbaric chamber that increases the oxygen levels in the blood.

HBOT improves brain and tissue oxygenation and is FDA approved for several conditions, such as decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, and a number of others. There is controversy surrounding uses of HBOT that are not FDA approved, including brain injury, but anecdotal evidence suggests it can be beneficial to treat symptoms of brain injury.

Potential risks include:
- Claustrophobia
- Pain in ears, sinuses, or joints
- Oxygen poisoning
- Damage to ears or lungs

HBOT is available in hospitals, outpatient centers, and private clinics. Prices for a one hour session generally range between $100-250 depending on location.
